Sports Hall, Markusevac

This is an addition to the old school. The complex is situated in a village absorbed by the city, with no cultural amenities. The sports hall was designed so as to accommodate multifunctionality.

The Hall is a ‘box’ determined by the ‘biggest common denominator’ of volume required for sports activities. However, the corridors that feed the public tribunes are treated as vectors of communications and are, as such, articulated as added, exposed and conspicuous. The infrastructural elements (of air-conditioning) are treated in the same manner – as an index in the C.S. Peirce sense: neither symbol (convention), nor icon (resemblance), but a physical trace of movement (of people, air, heat).
…The low ribbon window, flush with the wall, overlooks one of the many streams springing from Mount Sljeme and flowing towards the River Sava.
